New Ad Formats Make Search Ads More Attractive
This week the company announced the launch of some new rich ad formats. You may have seen some being tested over the last little while. They have new formats that include videos. Some include maps. Some include multiple links for different landing pages. Some of the new ads include product images with corresponding links and prices. Some actually offer comparison shopping functionality. You can see several examples of the different looks here.
"At Google, we're committed to giving you the information you want — regardless of the form in which it might appear," says Google VP, Product Management Susan Wojcicki. "Text is often useful, but sometimes videos and pictures are a more effective way to receive information. For example, if you want to learn a magic trick, a video showing you how to perform the trick is likely the best result. So over the past few years, we've blended videos, images, maps and more into the search results on Google.com."
That is precisely why the new formats could go a long way to increase clicks and conversions. They are offering the user more than simply text links. The addition of these different formats has the potential to make ads much more relevant to what users are really trying to find.
Google is increasingly making its mobile search more useful as well, and as you know mobile web use is rapidly gaining popularity.
Of course Google is already giving local businesses a different way to advertise, through Local Listing ads. Traditional search ads (which are becoming less traditional and more useful to users) are just another base to cover.
